Battle for fiber king still up for grabs: 80% of Filipino homes still have no broadband connection – PLDT

PLDT led by bilyonaryo Manny V. Pangilinan believes the race for dominance in the fiber broadband business is still wide open with only one in five Filipino homes with high-speed internet connection.

Among the industry players, PLDT, which has to shed its copper wire network for fiber, is confident it has the best odds of grabbing a majority share of this vast unserved market.

“Demand for home broadband in the Philippines remains robust as only about 20 percent of the addressable households have a home broadband connection,” said PLDT in a statement.

“PLDT Home is well positioned to respond to the unserved demand given our network advantage, complemented by rapid build out of ports, and installation capability, PLDT added.

PLDT earlier said its home fiber business hooked up 800,000 households with fiber connection which pushed its total to 12 million homes and 5.29 million ports as of September 2021. It expects to exceed one million net new fiber subscriber adds for full year 2021.
