RSA: SMC on track to complete battery storage facilities end-2022

Conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is on track to complete its 31 battery energy storage systems nationwide by the end of the year.

SMC president Ramon Ang said a total of 690 megawatts out of 1,000 MW battery energy storage system facilities nationwide would be operational early this year.

“By year-end, we will have completed all 31 facilities for a total of 1,000 MW in capacity,” Ang said.

SMC is investing around $1 billion for its battery storage projects.

“This will help balance power in the grid and pave the way for a clean energy future,” Ang said.

Battery technology is expected to l boost flexibility of the country’s power grid and improve power quality. It can also facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources such as wind or solar into the grid and address its intermittence.

SMC’s battery storage facilities are located in Masinloc Zambales; Malita, Davao; Maco, Davao de Oro, and Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.
