PDIC taps León Gallery to host art auction this December

Here’s a Christmas treat for artists, art enthusiasts and collectors alike!

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) has partnered with León Gallery Fine Art and Antiques to host a virtual public auction on December 11 at 11 am.

Paintings by iconic artists Manuel Baldemor, Fernando Zobel, and Arturo Luz will be up for bidding as well as the art collections of closed banks. It’s PDIC’s way of disposing closed bank assets to give creditors higher chances of recovering their trapped funds stuck in closed banks.

It also of course helps boost the country’s vibrant art scene including wooden furniture, religious sculptures, ceramic works, carvings, tapestry and paintings.

Most of the paintings in the auction cover still-life objects, scenic landscapes, and architectural works.

Some bids start as high as P180,000 for a Juvenal Sansó acrylic painting of the Brittany coast and an Antonio Austria oil painting of a meat vendor at P60,000 to a Prudencio Lamarozza landscape oil painting at P20,000 and a Fernando Zobel litograph at P8,000.

While December 11 is still a few weeks away, you may already check out all the artworks up for auction here:
