‘Wag mag-reply! Lazada warns vs spam texts offering jobs, raffle prizes

E-commerce platform Lazada has warned its customers against falling victim to text scams using the company’s name to phish their personal and financial information.

In the text messages, agents claiming to be a Lazada representative from its “commercial department” are offering jobs that earn up to P3,000 per day plus a raffle prize if they sign up or get in touch through messaging platform WhatsApp.

Pinoy telco subscribers got multiple text messages with varying offers, flooding mobile phone inboxes over the weekend.

“These scams attempt to pass themselves off as official Lazada communication or impersonate Lazada personnel, enticing customers to participate in fake promotions or raffles or respond to job opportunities. We would like to remind the public that Lazada will never send messages via text/SMS, instant messaging or social media apps requesting your personal or Lazada account details,” the company added.

“Please communicate or transact with Lazada, or any of our marketplace sellers, and access your account only via the Lazada app, website, and official channels.”

Lazada said it is now in talks with telco companies and government agencies “to discuss, review, and clamp down on these fraudulent activities,” as it stressed that cybersecurity is a priority.

The company advised customers to report such incidents instead of interacting with suspicious agents passing off as Lazada employees.

Meanwhile, the National Telecommunications Commission has issued its own text blast to warn subscribers against these scams.
