Hackers demanding $20M? Lucio Co’s S&R confirms cyber attack

The personal information of thousands of S&R members may have been compromised after hackers breached its system.

In a statement issued Wednesday (November 24), the Lucio Co-owned membership shopping club sought to ease members’ concerns by saying that its team “acted immediately and decisively” to implement cyber security protocols.

Systems operations have resumed, the company added.

“Limited membership data, which are confined to contact information, may have been compromised. However, all our members’ credit card and other financial information are SAFE and SECURED, as these data are protected by encryption measures as required by regulation,” S&R added, noting that it has notified the National Privacy Commission regarding the matter.

The disclosure came a day after controversial estafa suspect Xian Gaza claimed in his Facebook page that a group of hackers infiltrated S&R’s database and was demanding $20 million to return access to the company, with a deal that they would never publicly disclose that the system was breached if the sum is paid.

S&R’s letter seemed to confirm the allegation, with the Wednesday letter actually dated three days earlier, on November 21.

“Kaya pala down ang system nyo last monday mag replace dapat ng lost card hindi ma trace yung expiration ng card. So totoo pala yung kay Xian,” one S&R client said in the comments section.

“Kinailangan pa mag salita ni Xian Gaza bago kayo mag release ng official statement?,” another netizen said
