Almost there: Smart, Globe, Dito report successful mobile interoperability tests

Moves toward local mobile number interoperability took a huge step after the country’s three mobile phone operators successfully completed technical and interoperability trials.

Telecommunications Connectivity Inc. (TCI), the joint venture company of Globe, Smart and DITO said the results of the initial tests were ‘within expectations’

With the joint initiative, a consumer can switch to a different service provider without changing his or her mobile number.

The three telco players said the next steps would be how to address remaining concerns and possible challenges before making the service available to all customers on Sept. 30.

These include streamlining the external porting process, implementing fraud and security safeguards, optimizing systems and backend business operations in time for a smoother and faster porting experience for customers.
