In a statement, GCash said the number of its users hit over 40 million as of June this year. Daily transactions are also averaging eight million.
Globe CEO Ernest Cu expects Gcash transactions to breach two trillion this year, driven by its partnerships with corporations.
Cu said its partnership with AirAsia is a “valuable” addition to its robust portfolio.
The partnership will let customers pay for their Airasia plane fare and accommodation in partner hotels simply by using the GCash apps on their mobile phones. They can also opt for contactless payment using the GCash app at airasia counters.
“At GCash, we have pioneered a number of digital payment innovations to help Filipinos during the pandemic, and this partnership with Airasia is a continuation of its thrust to provide users with safe and convenient payment solution,” Martha Sazon, GCash president and chief executive said.
Ricky Isla, AirAsia Philippines CEO, said providing convenience through digital and contactless solutions while observing the highest standards of safety has always been the budget carrier’s commitment to its guests.
