The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) might need to enroll its social media handlers in a refresher course on how to be men and women for others.
ADMU has drawn flak online after advising passers of the Ateneo College Entrance Test (ACET) to “assess their other options well” before deciding whether or not to confirm their slot.
“Speaking of the first order of business, accepted applicants need to gather their documents for confirmation, watch out for their school’s Open House, and assess their other options well. We’re not for everyone,” ADMU tweeted on May 17.
The tweet’s elitist tone drew dismay from both Ateneans and non-Ateneans on social media, who couldn’t believe how callous the Jesuit-run university could be.
The controversial tweet has since been deleted, but no formal apology was made.
The school addressed the controversy by saying: “We phrased that quite poorly and arrogantly. But our intent was to invite people to get to know us a little better and consider their own context and plans instead of automatically jumping in.”
This really could have been worded so much better………….. https://t.co/aeZz225szZ

Netizens, however, believe the tweet was a mere token gesture to quell criticism.
Hey Ateneo freshies, the first order of business, besides celebrating, is to follow @AteneoLS 👍 Thanks!
