Ex-national treasurer Serge Edeza retires from SMC, former UCPB Savings boss Joseph Pineda takes his place

Former National Treasurer Sergio G. Edeza is closing the book on his impressive financial career, both in the public and private sectors.

Edeza announced his retirement as SVP for treasury of San Miguel Corp. effective May 31.

Edeza, the former president and CEO of Bank of Commerce, will be replaced by current SVP and deputy CFO Joseph N. Pineda, the former president of UCPB Savings Bank.

Sergio Gonzales Edeza has had a distinguished career in the private and public sectors. He is currently senior vice-president and treasury head of San Miguel Corporation. In June 2011 he assumed a position as president and CEO of the Bank of Commerce. He has also served as executive vice-president and treasurer, financial markets group, at Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC); senior vice-president, treasury group, at Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co; and president and CEO at PhilExim Guarantee Corp.

Edeza served in the central bank for 11 years, where he rose from deputy director to treasurer, before he was appointed national treasurer during the Arroyo administration.

The De La Salle alum and certified public accountant also worked a EVP of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC); SVP of Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co; and president and CEO of PhilExim Guarantee.
