Apex suspends Benguet operations amid Covid-19 cases

Apex Mining Co. Inc. has temporarily suspended operations at its Sangilo mine in Itogon, Benguet following positive covid-19 tests results from more than 80 employees.

In a disclosure to the stock exchange, Apex said the Sangilo mine owned by subsidiary Itogon-Suyoc Resources was included in the localized lockdown order issued on October 23 due to Covid-19 positive cases reported.

While management is still awaiting all results of the swab tests conducted by the Rural Health Unit, it has
has doubled up on its mitigation measures, disinfecting all the areas where the coronavirus cases were identified.

The company is seeking assistance from the local government unit to conduct mass testing among its employees in the mine site.

Apex said operations would resume upon completion of contact tracing and swab testing, and that only those with negative results would be allowed to return to work.

Meanwhile,the company’s Maco mine in Davao De Oro remains operational and COVID-19 free, where health and safety protocols continue to be strictly implemented.
