NBI busts fake Rhino Wheels

By Nancy Carvajal

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) raided on Friday 10 stores and two warehouses selling fake Black Rhino wheels, which have been blamed for some vehicular accidents.

NBI Special Action Unit agent Mark Santiago said the Black Rhino’s US-based manufacturer received complaints about road accidents caused by the fake wheels.

He said cease and desist letters were sent to the stores selling fake Black Rhino wheels but they were ignored.

“The sole distributor here said they reached out to the sellers because of the vehicular accidents that endangers the users of the fake wheels, but they were ignored and their warnings were not heeded,’’ Santiago added.

According to the NBI, the fake wheels are sold for P45,000 each while original Black Rhino wheels cost between P50,000 to P70,000 apiece.

Santiago said surveillance and test buys were conducted before they swooped down on various stores and warehouses located in Manila, Makati, Paranaque and Quezon City.

The NBI will file various cases against the owners of the stores selling the fake Black Rhino wheels.
