Filipinos were tuned in to yet another late-night Duterte address Tuesday (June 30) as they waited for new quarantine guidelines but did not expect such a shocker from the President’s mouth.
Just before ending his long speech, Duterte said he was ordering multiple agencies to look into the embattled J&T Express, a delivery company already in hot water after multiple videos showed how some of its personnel were treating customers’ cargoe like trash, tossing them carelessly into delivery vans.
“May isa dito na madalas akong makatanggap ng complaint. You better shape up but I’d like you to know that I am ordering now because the CIDG is listening and the NBI to investigate you at ang BIR to look into your finances,” Duterte said.
He even got the name wrong the first time, calling the the company JMT before he was corrected by his aide. “Itong J&T — ‘yung nakita niyo sa TV — ‘yung tinatapon nila ‘yung waste na ano na mga basag-basag diyan, mga spoiled or ‘yung kinunan o pinalitan baka, masyadong marami,” he said.
” Because of the so many complaints, I will close you down. Sigurado ‘yan sasarahan talaga kita whether you like it or not after the CIDG and the NBI finish their investigation and point a liability sa inyo.”
J&T went from apologetic to defensive the past week, threatening to sue netizens who post videos or materials derogatory to its business.
