ABS-CBN has suspended temporarily the production of “Ang Probinsyano” and other teleseryes as well as the live staging of its variety shows starting March 15.
The TV giant said this was in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of a community quarantine and ban on mass gatherings to contain the spread of COVID-19. Duterte’s order is effective up to April 12.
ABS-CBN is expected to take a big hit on its bottomline especially as its signature show, “Ang Probinsyano”, is hands down the most watch teleserye in the country since it started airing in 2015.
Kantar Media data showed it has a 33.8 percent share of the primetime viewership. The show is headlined by bilyonaryo artist Coco Martin (Rodel Nacianceno). Celebritynetworth.com estimates Martin’s assets at $20 million.
“The company is taking this initiative for the safety and health of our artists, crew, production teams and their families, and the general public,” ABS-CBN said in a statement.
ABS-CBN said it planned to air re-runs of “well-loved shows to provide inspiration, hope and upliftment.”
