The highly competitive Chinese restaurant market is getting a major shakeup in 2020.
Bilyonaryo Frank Lao, owner of Choi Garden, has bought out owners of Greenhills’ biggest Chinese restaurant, Gloria Maris, and their HaiKang
seafood restaurant on Wilson Street.
Lao will be a partner in Gloria Maris’ other branches – Alabang Town Center, Araneta Center in Cubao, Cultural Center of the Philippines, and two in Greenbelt in Makati.
Both Choi Garden and Gloria Maris are on the Top 10 list of best Chinese restaurants in the country.
FULL CIRCLE
Both Gloria Maris and Choi Garden are the brainchild of the famous Hong Kong Chef, Mr. Choi.
Mr. Choi was a founding partner of Gloria Maris when it was still in its original site before the makeover of Greenhills Shopping Center. Mr. Choi took charge of the menu, hiring of cooks, and importation of equipment and ingredients.
When he left, Mr. Choi formed Choi Garden on Annapolis Street, Greehills near EDSA. Mr. Choi has sold out his shares but remains as consultant.
Following Mr. Choi’s exit, Gloria Maris’ quality has suffered while Choi Garden has surged higher to set the cooking standard among Chinese food fans.
Choi Garden has added four more branches – San Lorenzo in Makati, Uptown Parade in Bonifacio Global City, Podium in Ortigas, Santa Cruz in Manila, and Greenhills Shopping Center.
With the combination of Choi Garden and Gloria Maris’ network, Lao has crowned himself as the country’s new Chinese restaurant king.
