Gov’t to offer free wifi to over 100,000 public sites by 2022

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) aims to provide free public wifi service to 104,000 sites by 2022 either through partnerships with the private sector or tapping satellite beoadband services.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) aims to provide free public wifi service to 104,000 sites by 2022 either through partnerships with the private sector or tapping satellite beoadband services.

DICT Secretary Gregorio Honasan II said they were stepping up efforts roll out more internet hotspots as part of the agency’s Free Wifi for All program.

The agency recently activated 25 wifi hotpots in hospitals, public schools, parks and other similar and strategic areas in San Juan City.

“We are looking forward to installing more Wi-Fi sites not just here in San Juan but in many more cities and municipalities of the country in the coming years,” he said.
