The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has issued a cease and desist order against water concessionaire Boracay Tubi, owned by bilyonaryo Lucio Tan, to shut down its sewage pipe in the world-famous island beach resort.
The Tan company was given seven days to respond to the complaint.
A Korean diver Charn Joon Park shared a video of a turtle with a head inside a sewage pipe beneath Boracay’s clear waters.
According to a report by ABS-CBN’s Jacque Manabat, Park took the video on September 18 and the DENR issued the cease and desist order on Sept 19.
Manabat said Park believed the pipe between 400 and 500 meters from the shore and 20 meters from the coral reef, and was found at a depth of 15 meters.
Boracay Tubi, a subsidiary of MacroAsia Properties Development Corp., currently accounts for 35 percent of the island’s water and sewerage needs. Boracay Tubi planned to spend P600 million in the next five years to increase its share to 50 percent.

Usec Antiporda says one possibility that the sea turtle sticks its
head into the outfall pipe in Boracay is because of the warm
temperature of water flowing from the pipe. pic.twitter.com/OocE4zhmJv—
