The Department of Labor and Employment has penalized GMA Network Inc. for failure to comply with occupational safety and health standards which led to the death of veteran actor Eddie Garcia.
GMA has been fined P100,000 a day – the maximum peanlty set under the OSH Law – until it rectifies its violations.
Based on the investigation conducted ny DOLE, GMA didn’t have a safety officer during Garcia’s shoot of the teleserye.
The network also failed to submit an accident report, DOLE said.
Garcia tripped on the set at a tenement house in Tondo Manila on June 8. He died on June 20 at the age of 90 after being comatose.
GMA, meanwhile, said it “has been fully cooperating in the investigation of DOLE.”
“However, as of this writing, we have not received any order or resolution from DOLE regarding the matter,” GMA said.
