Construction firm DM Wenceslao and Associates Inc. submitted an unsolicited proposal to the government to build a subway traversing under Edsa to help ease the worsening traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

DM Wenceslao chairman Delfin Wenceslao said the company?s proposed subway would have four to five stations that will connect Trinoma and Mall of Asia.

?It will be under Edsa. It will not be in conflict with the government?s [ subway project],? he said.

The government?s subway project, which will be the country?s first, stretches 30 kilometers which will runbetween Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport across 14 stations.

The Philippines and Japan formally signed the first tranche of the official development assistance (ODA) loan for the P355.6 billion Metro Manila subway project.

Construction is expected to start before the end of the year with partial operations for the first three stations targeted in 2022. The system will be fully operational by 2025.
