Heeding President Duterte’s call for assistance, budget carrier Cebu Pacific is mounting a special flight to bring home Filipino workers from Kuwait.

Just last Friday, Duterte called on Philippine Airlines of taipan Lucio Tan and bilyonaryo John Gokongwei’s Cebu Pacific to fetch overseas Filipino workers from Kuwait who want to come home after a string of deaths of Filipinos there.

Cebu Pacific said special arrangements are being made since it no longer has regular commercial air service between Manila and Kuwait.

The no-frills airline is working with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait on the final travel arrangements.

“CEB will be deploying an Airbus A330 aircraft?the largest in its fleet, for the charter flight. It has a maximum capacity of 436 passengers. We will also provide free food and refreshment, as well as baggage allowance for all passengers on this charter flight,” the Gokongwei-owned airline said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs estimates that more than 250,000 Filipinos work in Kuwait, most of them as domestic helpers.

There is also a large concentration of OFWs in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
