The Department of Public Works and Highways expects to open a portion of the P37.43 billion Metro Manila Skyway stage 3 project by the second quarter of next year.
The opening of the President Quirino Avenue Manila section of Skyway stage 3 from South Luzon Expressway will ?help decongest traffic along major thoroughfares like EDSA, C.P. Garcia or C-5 and Central Metro Manila?, said DPWH Secretary Mark Villar.
Skyway Stage 3 involves the construction of a 14.8 kilometer, six-lane elevated expressway which will connect Buendia, Makati City to Balintawak, Quezon City. This is expected to cut travel time from the usual two hours to just 15 to 20 minutes.
San Miguel Corp., is the concessionaire of Skyway Stage 3, which is expected to be completed by 2019.
The project is designed to have eight strategically located interchanges in Buendia Avenue, President Quirino Avenue, Plaza Dilao and Nagtahan, Aurora Boulevard, E. Rodriguez Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Sgt. Rivera and Balintawak, with a total of 14 Toll Plazas.
